Customers moving goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland should be aware of an important change to the Trader Support Service (TSS) this autumn. The next phase of the service, which is currently in private beta, will go live for all users on 20 October 2026.
TSS was introduced in 2020 to help businesses adapt to the new customs requirements created by Brexit. It has since become an important part of the movement process under the Windsor Framework, providing guidance and, where required, completing customs and safety and security declarations for movements between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
HMRC has appointed Netcompany to deliver the next phase of TSS, replacing the outgoing platform/provider.
While the technology behind the service is changing, the core customs processes and information required from customers will remain broadly the same. The aim has been to provide a more modern, accessible and sustainable platform, with improvements shaped by user feedback.
From 20 October, all new movements must be submitted through the new TSS service, making this a key date.
- Existing TSS users: do not need to register again. HMRC says they will be migrated automatically.
- Businesses that have never used TSS but move goods in or out of Northern Ireland: should register HERE now, particularly if they intend to make movements after 20 October.
- Caledonian customers, where we do the declaration, may not need their own account. If you are unsure whether any action is required, please contact our team.
At Caledonian Freight, we have been planning ahead for the transition. Our team has been testing the new system and preparing our processes so that we are ready for the changeover.
For customers, the priority remains the same: ensuring we have complete and accurate shipment information in good time. With the new platform approaching, Caledonian Freight is ready to continue supporting smooth, compliant movements between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
